Writing Style 2

The calm, quaint and historic town of Stony Stratford is about to be invaded by a fresh new venture for Thursday evenings! The prestigious Myra Tiffin Performing Arts School is creating a new level of inspiration for its pupils by introducing a selection of modern and creative styles taught by Rosina Andrews who has been trained professionally in theatre. The classes will create an atmosphere perfect for the learning and development of the children's creativity boosting their confidence and sharpening their understanding of the ever changing and prestigious show business industry.
Rosina's knowledge of dance and her bubbly, slightly eccentric and perfectionist attitude towards teaching will give your children a dance class very different from there usual syllabus and technique classes and will leave your child buzzing with excitement. Rosina has trained intensively for the last three years at one of the top dance colleges in the country and graduating with a higher diploma in Professional Dance and musical theatre. Now having graduated she lives in London, the commercial dancer capital of the UK, extending her knowledge of dance genres. She is embracing the variety that being a dancer enables her for, encompassing the benefits of teaching children, auditioning with some world class choreographers and taking class with my talented peers. With this first class knowledge your children will not fail to enjoy her classes and be inspired and want to continue their adventures in dance and the magic of theatre.

The classes that are being introduced are Musical Theatre, Hip Hop and Advanced Jazz. Each class will be tailored to the age group and experience of the specific group focusing on improving their weaknesses and boosting their strengths even more.

Musical Theatre will be an eclectic mix of styles, genres and shows. Ever changing from week to week will encompass all the different styles of modern theatre whilst keeping fresh up to date with new routines. During the period of a term of these classes, each one will build a bridge towards the essential versatility of a dancer by teaching the basics of each style. Once in the theatre watching a professional production, Rosina aims for the pupils to recognize routines they have learnt and understand the principals which make a show a success.

HipHop for the younger pupils will bring to life there favorite music videos and pop-stars by creating dances they can enjoy and repeat to show their friends, at school discos or entertain their grandparents at the christmas party. After a hard week of disciplined academic school and technical dance lessons this is a perfect opportunity for them to have fun with their friends whilst learning one of the most upcoming dance styles to hit the UK.

Advanced Jazz will enable our older pupils to gain the mentality, stamina and perseverance of a dancer at vocational level. We aim to slowly introduce techniques of further dance training before they leave for dance college by treating them like professionals and creating an environment similar to what they would receive therefor acting like the arm bands and rubber rings before they get thrown into the deep end!

If you would like anymore information on the exciting new classes or would like to put your name down to be involved in this brand new and structured dance classes, please contact the Myra Tiffin Performing Arts School directly.

  1. Rosina, what an excellent piece of descriptive writing and the fact that I can distinguish its writing style straight away is what makes its excellence stand out. You definitely set the scene and I am able to develop a mental picture from the start. When I read the first paragraph I immediately want to read on as it excites me instantly. Not only can I see the calm, quaint and historic town but im also able to push my imagination further and see the villagers coming out of their homes to see where the exciting and magical music is coming from, your writing style allows me to do all of this. The difference between the quaintness of the town and excitement of the classes also works well in setting the scene. Your descriptive writing starts with a clear description of the bigger picture then goes into more detail explaining what you have to offer and more importantly what the children will gain from the classes. I like the way you have stated how the children will benefit in the first paragraph, another good reason for the reader to read on.
I would think about trying to shorten it, although its a piece of descriptive and you want to paint a detailed picture, when reading it I find its too much text to take in which could allow the reader to switch off and not finish taking it all in. Your three paragraphs on musical theatre, hip hop and advanced jazz could be shortened, making them more effective and easy to digest.
In your description of the advanced jazz classes I like the clever and effective use of metaphor that explains the gradual process from further dance training into college. I really enjoyed reading your descriptive writing and it has made me think about my piece and what I can do to improve it.

  2. I like your descriptive piece and like Michelle said i could really picture Stratford as it's such a lovely historic town, i could see the small streets and the black and white buildings with the warm colour of the lights lighting up the cold stony streets.
I enjoyed the content and your opening to this piece is very engaging, however i agree with Michelle and do think that this is to long and i do feel myself skipping sentences to get to the end.
I think a way to cut down would be to use your information about musical theatre and hip hop into the 2nd paragraph as this is a short one, you could just use a few lines from each paragraph on musical theatre and hip hop instead of there own separate paragraphs this way they will picture what they are about without getting put off reading.
I also have thought a lot about the font you have used for this piece and i think for me that it's to harsh. I think this font would work for your marketing piece because its bold and makes a statement but this font i feel is to brash and needs something that flows. Maybe if the font was changed it wouldn't be to much writing to read?

  3. Abbi and Michelle, I would like to start to thankyou for the constructive comments which you have posted and your positivity. Suprisingly i found this piece of writing, the descriptive the most difficult. I have taken your comments on board and typed up a more consise version, i agree in the middle of the piece i find myself dragging on, literally only to make the word count, i will look over it and choose the most appropriate information.

The font choice i agree is too brash for the style, i will try and find something more elegant, like handwriting to link with the The calm, quaint and historic town of Stony Stratford

  5. I think it would be a good idea to change the font to relate the the history of the town, I also think that using the most important information will make it even more interesting to read. I look forward to reading the next draft.
