Project Activity
Anyone else finding it tremendously difficult to write 2400 words critically reflecting on 'what you did'?
I don't have many elements to my project activity so I'm scraping the barrel at the moment at about 1,600!
Does project activity include 'writing the report' or am i pushing it?!

Campus session Tuesday 19th
Hi All,
Just a little blog post regarding the key points of Tuesdays campus session if you were unable to attend and also to try and write up my scribbled notes!
- I hadn't realised up till how completely unique and individual our projects are, understandably I knew everyones data and ideas would be different but i thought that each chapter and methodology would follow the same format. How wrong I was, just listening to the advisors conflicting views on what a Case Study is, highlighted for me that there is NO WRONG OR RIGHT with this project or research in general. Peter re-inforced this noting that no definitive opinion is concrete and is open for speculation, therefore we had to be careful we didn't use the word PROVE in our work, his example of the world being round, for hundreds of years it was percieved to be square and that was that, then researchers discovered that it was round, and that was believed, looking further into it now researchers believe it may be oval. What i drew from this about our research is that to make it coherant we must critically evaluate literature alongside our data.
- Literature review was another part that was a little foggy for me, Rosemary helped explain what it must contain….
'Think of it as a dinner party, invite all the interesting documents to dinner, whilst enjoying dessert throw in your research questions, and listen to the conversation created from all the documents, the conflicting arguments, the agreeing nods and raised eyebrows…'
That is how we must think about our literature review, Summarise the KEY ARGUMENTS, TELL A STORY, DEFINE TERMS AND INTERPRET OUR SOURCES. There is also a chapter on this in the Bell book.
- Chapter 5, Project findings…the big one…! What I learnt, What I didn't learn, HOW DID THIS EFFECT MY PROJECT.
Key Finding --> Evidence ---------------------> Conculsion
- -
- -
- > Compare to literature <-
- Oral Presentation, Yes this is still happening, and yes we do get marked on it, but listening to the advisors it is highly unlikely that it will make our grade for our dissertation lower, it may help them understand certain points which were not made on paper and therefore raise our marks. It will be at the Campus w/c 10th January, a slideshow with us commentating, there will be questions asked by our peers who are watching and the advisors and if you are not able to attend other options can be followed.
Now back to chapter 4….!

Tenses
Having conversed with Paula and taking a look at other blogs, the confusion of which tense to write our chapters in is a bit clearer.
Referencing the handbook,
Chapter 3- Describe your choice of research and why.
Consider your role as worker researcher
Critically discuss the techniques used.
How did you deal with ethical issues?
Reference research texts.
Paula continued to tell me that this is the WHAT WE DID AND WHY whilst choosing our methodologies.
Chapter 4- What did you do?
Why?
What did it achieve?
What helped/hindered?
How did you design the research method?
What did the pilot study reveal?
Reference research texts.
I have understood this as the WHAT WE DID , WHY AND HOW DID IT GO of actually obtaining our research.
Both chapters are in the Past tense as we are writing up our project.
Literally just writing up this blog, has categorized my understanding of what I am writing about and also whilst writing up Chapter 3's draft I will keep looking back at this so I do not confuse the two chapters.

Google Documents
Hi everyone,
Currently getting stuck into the project. Interviews are underway and questionaires complete…i have began posting documents on google, which are available on https://docs.google.com/document/edit?id=1o39RdQbFaaaBSnGKNwWE-ZMdOa0CAz9WuO3Fe2YHnl8&hl=en&authkey=CLuhmcsC
Im not particularly enthusiastic about it at the moment, I really don't understand why everyone has to see our work!? I hope to be converted with someones words of wisdom about this!

New module!
So, Summer has gone…!? Its raining and so I spent today organising myself for this new module before I head off to Rhodes next week!
I have set up delicious but I am really not sure how to add people as the people I have tried it says 'They do not exist' and I have a feeling that whoever tries to add me it will say the same thing!!!
If you think you know how to add people, please let me know and in the mean time add me on
rosinaandrews@ymail.com
Reading through the module handbook I am pleased to see that it seems far less confusing than the last one and its nice also to see that although its 12000 words most of the chapters we have covered in our proposal! Having already submitted my questionaires I have a lot of data ready to get my teeth stuck in, does anyone know any good 'graph making' software? Im currently using Excel and I feel very much like I am in ICT back at school!
Hope your all enjoying 'Summer' !
